John Chapman has loved music and photography since he was a teenager, often bringing his camera into clubs and music halls. As a musician himself, John understands the intrusion flash photography can create both for the performer and the audience. He specializes in non-intrusive performance photography, capturing the energy and mood of the performing artist using only available stage lighting.

He has been Humboldt State University's Center Arts photographer since 2001, and frequents local bars and venues to document local artists and touring bands. John has lived on the Northern California coast for nearly 20 years.
